A database is a collection of data that is organized so that its contents can easily be accessed, managed, and updated. A database is made up of individual records, each holding the data pertaining to a given person or item. A record consists of multiple fields (with their associated field names), each holding one item of data. To manage your database on your computer you will need a database management software. FileMaker Pro is such a software.

By the end of this course, you will be able to use FileMaker Pro 5.5, the PC version, to create a database document that demonstrates your proficiency in the skills required to use a database software. You will download and use four documents to achieve this goal: a template, which will guide you through the knowledge and skills.

Before starting this course, you should be able to open, close and save files. You can acquire these skills in our Basic Computer Skills course.
